The Port Authority carries out an underwater cleanup of the Placeres dock
The Port Authority of Marín and Pontevedra Estuary undertook another underwater cleanup of its docks this January, this time in the Placeres dock for small boats. The cleanup resulted in the removal of approximately 10 cubic meters of submerged trash. Among the larger items removed were remnants of fishing gear, ropes, and buoys, among other debris. Cleaning the seabed, both in the docks and along the fishing coast, is one of the Port Authority's most pressing environmental objectives. A few days ago, the first cleanup of the year was carried out, yielding 6,200 kilos of trash. Throughout 2020, a total of 27,000 kilos have been recovered from the sea, in collaboration with the fishing boats that set out daily. In total, since 2014, the Port Authority and the fishing fleet of Marín have removed 130,000 kilos of marine litter from our coasts. The waste that the fishing vessels bring ashore during their operations is sorted and separated in port for transfer to authorized waste management facilities and, where appropriate, reuse. The Port participates in several projects aimed at recovering and valorizing marine waste, such as Repesca Plas and Marine Litter Style (ML-Style).
