The Port Authority shares its experience in marine litter collection in Gijón
The Port Authority of Marín and Pontevedra Estuary participated in a training session in Gijón on “management of unintentionally caught fish waste and its reporting to the national database,” organized by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. Since 2009, the Port of Marín has been developing various environmental projects for the removal of marine debris in collaboration with the fishing fleet and port service companies. It has joined programs such as Pescal, Nada por la Borda, Repescaplas 1 and 2, ML-Stile, and Circazul, achieving remarkable results. The Port Authority of Marín remains committed to removing marine debris, and so far this year, more than 8,000 kg of marine litter have been collected from the coasts and seabed for treatment at authorized facilities. Benito Calviño, Head of Sustainability at the Port Authority, shared with the other attendees the evolution of these projects over the years at the Port of Marín. The event also included the presentation of a national protocol for marine litter collection and its alignment with European legislation in this area.
