The Port Authority recovered 85% of the waste generated during 2022
The various systems implemented at the Port of Marín for the selective collection and reuse of waste by the Port Authority, refrigeration facilities, and export departments, among others, resulted in the removal of 1,840,459 kilos of waste during 2022. The consolidation of selective collection at the port by the Port Authority and the port services company Cantodarea, along with the increasing awareness of users, facilitates the port's management of different types of waste. Thus, after discarding municipal solid waste and similar waste, which amounts to 15.10% of the total, the remaining 84.90% was recovered during the past year because it was separated at the source. This percentage increases every year, reinforcing the ongoing commitment to the environmental dimension of all activities carried out at the Port of Marín. Waste management systems have been extended to an increasing number of facilities throughout the port community in recent years. As a result, between 2013 and 2022, more than 9 million kilograms of waste material were selectively removed. The Port of Marín is fully committed to the environmental management of waste related to maritime and port activities. The largest volume of waste separated at the source during 2022 consisted of fishing nets, followed by paper and cardboard, as well as significant quantities of plastics and wood scraps.
