The Port Authority trains new rail traffic managers
The Port Authority is hosting a rail traffic manager training course at its facilities to train more of its staff in maritime-rail traffic and operations. The course is being attended by port police personnel, technicians, and workshop staff, as well as employees of the Port of Vilagarcía and port terminal companies. This theoretical and practical training equips participants to interpret rail regulations applicable to port traffic, manage train traffic and shunting operations on the internal network, coordinate operations with the national rail network, apply operating procedures, manage incidents, and implement risk prevention measures in rail operations. The Port of Marín is one of the leading ports in the entire national port system in terms of the percentage of freight transported by rail within its port area. On average, approximately 14 trains pass through each week, carrying a wide variety of goods, including containers, timber, agri-food bulk products, and steel products. The Port of Marín has more than 7,000 meters of railway tracks and a significant investment has recently been made for the automation and monitoring of the system, which allows for more efficient and coordinated operations for the different traffics that use this intermodal option.
