The Port of Marín continues to grow in the frozen fish sector
Through August, the Port of Marín handled nearly 90,000 tons of frozen fish in its various forms, registering an increase of over 10% in the first eight months of the year for non-containerized shipments of this product. The president of the Port Authority of Marín and Pontevedra Estuary, Jose Benito Suárez Costa, is currently participating in Conxemar, the international frozen food trade fair, which is celebrating its 26th edition this year. At this event, the president highlighted "the importance and relevance of the companies from the Port of Marín," which have their own dedicated spaces to present their services and new products. These companies include Cabomar Congelados, Pérez Torres Marítima, Pesquerías Marinenses, Safricope, Frioantartic, Davila Reefer Terminal, Marfrío, Rosa de los Vientos, and the producers' organization Opromar. The cold storage facilities at the Port of Marín provide reception, storage, and processing services for frozen fish and are one of the main economic drivers for the entire region due to their potential for generating local employment. Many of these facilities also have their own fleets and additional fish processing plants. The President of the Port Authority highlighted the significant investment made by the Port's cold storage facilities, stating that "they are clearly committed to energy efficiency and sustainability, in line with the Port Authority's environmental strategy." Furthermore, the President of the Port of Marín is taking advantage of the Conxemar trade fair to establish new contacts with refrigerated cargo operators, shipping companies, and consignees in order to showcase the wide range of services the port offers for these goods, including the option of refrigerated rail transport. Suárez Costa highlighted Marín's specialization in handling frozen goods, at a facility with over 70,000 square meters of concessioned space dedicated to refrigeration and a chilled storage capacity exceeding 260,000 cubic meters. "We have ample capacity to diversify our cargo and accommodate frozen fish operations, both in bulk and in containers," Suárez Costa noted.
