López Campos expresses his department’s willingness to collaborate with the Marín Port Authority on the conversion of the Ons lighthouse into a museum
The Regional Minister for Culture, Language, and Youth, José López Campos, has expressed his department’s willingness to collaborate with the Marín Port Authority on a project to turn the lighthouse on the island of Ons into a museum. He conveyed this during a meeting at San Caetano with the head of the Port Authority, José Benito Suárez.
During the meeting, the representative of the Galician Government highlighted to the head of the maritime authority the “significant heritage value” of the Ons lighthouse—which marked its 100th anniversary last July—describing it as a unique architectural feature that houses “a large number of historical artifacts related to maritime signaling, as well as well-preserved, very old registry books.” Furthermore, López Campos pointed to the regional government’s involvement in similar ongoing projects—such as the creation of museums or interpretation centers at the lighthouses on the islands of Cíes and Sálvora—which are being carried out through agreements between the port authorities, the Atlantic Islands Maritime-Terrestrial National Park, and the Xunta de Galicia.
