Digitalization and Decarbonization: Key Issues at the 1st National Port Congress, Attended by the President of the Port of Marín
José Benito Suárez Costa, President of the Port Authority of Marín, returned from Valencia after the 1st National Port Congress, which was attended by more than 650 people this week. Suárez Costa traveled with several Port Authority executives, given the importance of the topics discussed in the various presentations, which were organized around 12 roundtables and 4 conferences. The President of the Port Authority took the opportunity to meet with several shipping companies and shipping agents that may operate through the port in the future.
The President noted that some of the main topics of discussion at the Congress “are precisely the major challenges we are currently facing at the Port of Marín, such as the digitalization of services and the promotion of sustainability with the new electrification project for the container terminal docks.”
The Congress addressed digitalization as a key driver of port competitiveness, aiming to transform the entire Spanish port system "into a benchmark as an economic engine, a strategic logistics hub, and a pioneer in innovation and sustainability." Another topic discussed during the event was the need to strengthen public-private partnerships as the foundation of the state-owned port model.
The state port system comprises 46 ports of general interest managed by 28 port authorities. Investments totaling €7 billion are planned through 2029, as highlighted by the Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, in his opening address.
