The Port Authority carried out works in 2025 with a total budget of approximately €6.5 million
2025 was a significant year for infrastructure projects at the Port of Marín. Throughout the year, 12 major port infrastructure projects were underway, representing a total awarded value (excluding VAT) of €6.4 million. The bidding process was also initiated for two additional projects, representing a value of €2.4 million.
Among the completed projects, those funded by the European Union stand out. Specifically, with co-financing from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), the installation of remote monitoring equipment for electricity consumption at the Port of Marín was carried out, along with improvements to the port's lighting network to enhance energy efficiency. This included replacing old high-pressure sodium vapor (HPS) lamps with LED lights, renovating some lighting towers, and installing the necessary underground conduits and power lines. Also funded by these resources, the interior lighting system of the Port Authority headquarters was upgraded, replacing fluorescent tubes with LED panels, significantly reducing electricity consumption.
Regarding the ERDF4 funds, of which the Port of Marín is a beneficiary, the first phase of the automation and monitoring of the port's internal rail network was completed in 2025. Another significant project is currently out to tender: the installation of renewable energy systems in the buildings of the Port Authority of Marín and Pontevedra Estuary. This will involve photovoltaic panels at the Border Inspection Post, the administrative headquarters, and the exporters' building. This will allow more than 80% of the energy generated to be used for self-consumption, reducing dependence on the main grid and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
As for projects funded by the FEMPA program, noteworthy examples include the renovation and improvement of the fish market's interior facilities, including the construction of a new roof, the installation of photovoltaic self-consumption equipment for the market itself (pending implementation), and the renewal of the stormwater drainage network in the fishing sector.
Other important projects underway in 2025 include connecting the Port's wastewater to the new main sewer line of the Marín Town Council, renewing and reinforcing pavements on roads and docks, replacing the truck weighbridge at the entrance to the Leirós dock, and installing protective panels on the shield fenders of the West Commercial Dock. Also noteworthy in the maritime works sector is the awarding of the contract for the rehabilitation of the Camouco beacon tower in the northern channel of Ons Island. This complex project involves demolishing and rebuilding this iconic navigational aid, which stands 13 meters tall.
